The Procedure
Dressed in a blue hospital gown crossing the stark antiseptic corridors
she was led to the OR for her surgery. Creeping age had not been kind to her.
Life had bestowed wealth and a loving family on her and she decided to have
a facelift to please her husband and herself and beat the passage of time.
Prior to her surgery she had gone through the whole gamut of tests, ruling out
any possible allergic reactions or any other condition that may be a factor of
concern. Now, all these behind her, she was ready and prepped for action.
The anesthesiologist gave her the usual pep talk preparing her for sedation and
loss of sensation during the procedure. He placed the needle in her vein and
began sedation while monitoring all the vitals with an eagle eye. After a few
minutes, he signaled the plastic surgeon to proceed. And the surgeon began
his work with deft fingers.
In the mean while, by some inexplicable quirk of fate the anesthesia did not take any
effect on her and she started feeling every needle prick and resultant pain from the
plastic surgery!! The passing time in seconds and minutes seemed like eons and the procedure
seemed like a horrific nightmare. Just like at night time, in a dream state
when we get nightmares sometimes, the sounds of a barking dog or frig motor kick-
starting makes us realize that this too will end and daybreak is near, similarly she
could hear the doctor and his team conversing and realized that this horrific nightmare
of excruciating pain too shall end soon as she dare not move to avoid any mishaps
that may disfigure her face forever.
Moral of the story: Sometimes, we pay a heavy price to maintain our looks and figure!!!.

Hi Bina,
I must say that it had a grip while i began to read..but somehow couldn convince me with the moral what you have said of "We pay a heavy price sometimes to maintain our looks and figure"..considering the kind of anology you introduced with nightmares and dreams, drawing upon with that, i think you would agree that it is highly traumatic and morbid to spend that one eonic-night iwth all those bad dreams/night mares...same was the case here for the lady...yet, it wasnt an anticipation what had happened to her but what fate had destined for her so un-desired...She paid the price for what she never intend to buy...or infact did so??? probability of having a night mare is very high because we human beings cant do without sleep...but plastic surgery/anaesthesi etc. are something not every indivdual has to go through and feel that un-nerving, traumatic pain...what say????
