Childhood promises of Eternal Love

The waves have receded taking our etched hearts in its wake
The drawn lines have obliterated beyond recognition, in the lake

The fun and games, cross my heart promises to be forever friends
Still holds true, even though we now meet, on some rare weekends

The sky, beach and waves were in cahoots from childhood with cupid
Binding us together in innocent love that even our destinies had hinted

Leaving childhood, we blazed our individual paths in life’s rat race
Half forgotten promises still simmering on back burner, not erased

We are both successful forces to be reckoned with in the business world
Much sought after, having casual relationship leaving our heads in a whirl

Yet we feel no happiness these days and have no joy in our hearts
When sober, we recall those promises made innocently as sweethearts

Alas if only we could go back and relive those sunny days of yonder
Recapturing our mutual love and happiness that was full of wonder

If I play my cards right maybe the gods above will make us cross
The same paths where we can once again take up where we left off

Perhaps we can get off the same train and meet face to face
Reinforcing our commitment, hand in hand in lifelong embrace

 Love is a smoke made with the fume of sighs. Being purged, a fire
 sparkling in lovers eyes. Being vexed, a sea nourished with lovers
 tears. What is it else? A madness most discreet, a choking gall
 and a preserving sweet.
